Privacy v Security: The Connects and Disconnects

This talk will discuss privacy fundamentals and then highlight and dig into the ways privacy and information security can help or work against each other; how information security and privacy are different at the enterprise level from the consumer level; why privacy is about more than "confidentiality," and how many security technologies are really PETs (privacy enabling technologies) and are a person's best friend, but can go feral if implemented incorrectly.

Jonathan Fox is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) and a Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) with over 13 years of domain experience. Jonathan is currently Director of Data Privacy at McAfee. Previously, Jonathan was the Director of Privacy at eBay Inc., and before that, Deputy Chief Privacy Officer at Sun Microsystems, Inc.He has worked closely with marketing, information security, engineering, internal audit, professional services, technical support, and cloud teams to establish policies and operate programs to ensure the protection of customer and employee personal information.Jonathan regularly speaks at industry events on privacy issues. He is on the International Association of Privacy Professional (IAPP)’s Certification Advisory Board and a former co-chair of the IAPP’s Bay Area KnowledgeNet.
